GREAT BEND - Arely Maldonado led the Hays High girls' cross country team to a third place team finish by placing fourth at the Great Bend 5A regional Saturday at the Lake Barton Cross Country Course.
The Indians qualify as a team with their third place finish.
Maldonado ran a 19:14.20 for her top five finish. The Salina Central duo of Katelyn Rupe and Kaylie Shultz went finished first and second with times of 17:21.18 and 18:02.05.
Brynn Kinderknect and Julia Zadina medaled in 18th and 19th. Cara Cunningham, Brenlynn Albers, Addison Otte and Ava Biggs competed in the race as well.
The Hays High boys finished in fifth place with 121 points. They were led by Taevian Maupin who finished sixth (17:30.35) to earn a spot at next week’s state meet Saturday (October 28) at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence.
