Wesley James Gross III

Wesley James Gross III, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Wesley was born on July 1, 1945, in Langston, Oklahoma, the son of Wesley J. Jr. and Amanda (Franklin) Gross.  He grew up in the Langston and Guthrie, Oklahoma, area and attended local schools.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Donna Dewberry on April 2, 2014, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She worked for Union Pacific Railroad for many years.  He enjoyed working on cars, house remodeling and doing handyman jobs for friends and family.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving family include daughters Anetra Gross of El Reno, Oklahoma, Dandria Trueluck and, Shalyn Law (Charles) of Russell, Kansas, Michelle Williams of Long Beach, California, and Tanisha Gross of Russell, Kansas; sons Ronald Groves of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Torrrance Cooper of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Wayne Neal (Shanita), and Devan Gross all of Russell, Kansas; brothers William Gross of El Reno, Oklahoma, and Calvin Gross of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 26 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, 2 sons Wesley Gross VI and James “Reggie” Gross; 5 sisters Viola Smith, Gracie Smith, Aljewel Lambert, Estellia Davidson and Slettie Dewberry; son in-law Dana William, Sr..

Cremation has been selected by the family.  A private family celebration of Wesley’s life will be held at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests funds be made out to and sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, 610 N. Maple Street, Russell, Kansas 67665, in order to help with funeral expenses. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.
