Gerald 'Gary' Lee Berens

Gerald “Gary” Lee Berens, 76, of Colby, died Friday, July 10, 2020 at Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, NE.

He was born May 27, 1944, in Colby, KS, to Wendell and Anna (Weigel) Berens. Gary graduated from Gem High School in 1962 and worked for Duckwall’s. In 1963, Gary entered the United State Air Force. He proudly served his country for 4 years. Upon exiting the service, he returned working for Duckwall’s, managing several locations. Gary then moved back to Colby to work a business with his father and brother. He later went to work as a power plant maintenance operator for the City of Colby, where he worked for 30 years. During his time in Colby, Gary also served as a reserve police officer and was a member of the Colby American Legion. In his pastime, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Gary loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gary attended the Celebration Community Church and was a member of the Kansas Prayer Network. He lovingly invested his time in family and people. He especially loved any time he got to spend with his grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Gerald Lee, Jr., Michael David and Justin Emmons; grandson Joshua Berens and brothers, David and Edmond.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Berens, of Colby; children, David (Shelly) Berens, Stafford, KS, Kevin (Angie) Berens, Colby, KS, Stephanie Berens, Indianapolis, ID, Chris (Shannon) Berens, Pratt, KS, Nathan Emmons, Colby, KS and Sarah Berens, Hays, KS; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Celebration Community Church, Colby, with inurnment in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
