Karen Ann (Hillman) Deutscher, 77, of WaKeeney, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1943, to Kenneth and Helen (Sproul) Hillman in Norton. She later attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, where she received instruction and training for secretarial work. 

On July 22, 1967, Karen was united in marriage to Ronald Deutscher in Ellis, and were together until his passing, just shy of their 50th anniversary.

Together they raised three children. Karen was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking, loved gardening, and was an avid reader. She also greatly enjoyed crafting, especially quilting, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church’s sewing team. Karen was also on the church council, served as a 4-H leader, and was a member of the Literary Book Club and EHU club.HU 

Karen is survived by her son Darrin Deutscher (Deanna) of Andover, Kansas; daughters Sonya Rupp (Patrick) of Garden City, and Shelly Essary (Michael) of Basehor; grandchildren Cassandra Wilson (Jason) of Wichita, Derek Kostner (Haleigh) of Wichita, Britney Deutscher of Augusta, Zoe Deutscher of Andover, Adam Deutscher of Andover, Anderson Essary of Basehor, and Archer Essary of Basehor; great-grandchildren Brynn Rains and Everett Knaak; brother Stanley Hillman (Sheryl) of Ransom; sister Lisa Whipple (Marvin) of Pawnee Rock; three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by both parents, Kenneth and Helen; and her beloved husband Ronald.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis, with Pastor John W. Morley III officiating. Burial will take place at Ogallah Cemetery, Ogallah.
