Hays receives snow Saturday; elevated fire risk today

Hays received 1 inch of snow on Saturday, according to the K-State Ag Research Center.

That accounts for .1 inches of moisture. For the month, Hays has received .28 inches of moisture, bringing the year-to-date total to 1.62 inches.

Hays receives an average of .78 inches of moisture in February and 1.19 inches by the end of the month.

Ellis County and the surrounding counties are under an elevated fire risk today, according to the National Weather Service.

Other affected counties include Trego, Scott, Lane, Ness, Rush, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Pawnee, Stafford, Stanton, Grant, Haskell, Gray, Ford, Edwards, Kiowa, Pratt, Morton, Stevens, Seward, Meade, Clark, Comanche and Barber.

The high in Hays today is forecast to be 51, with highs in the 70s and 60s Tuesday through Friday.

The forecast calls for a 50% chance for rain on Wednesday night.
