Hays sees 6" of snow in first winter storm of 2021

A total of 5.8 inches of snow fell in Hays during the year's first major winter storm as Monday night's overnight low temperature dipped to 12 degrees. 

According to the K-State Agricultural Research Center, the snow that began late Sunday and continued Monday yielded 0.50 inches of moisture. 

It was the first moisture recorded in Hays for the year. The average amount of moisture received in January is 0.46 inches.

The total amount of snowfall so far this season in Hays is 9.6 inches.

The weather forecast calls for more snow today.
