⚾ Hays falls to Hutchinson in regional opener

MAIZE - The Hays High baseball season came to a close with a 3-2 loss to Hutchinson in the Maize South regional tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

Hays scored the first run of the game when Jack Weimer scored on a bunt single by Tiger Johnson in the top of the fourth inning.

Hutchinson answered back with a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth for a 2-1 lead.

The Indians tied the game a run in the top of the sixth. Johnson used a sacrifice fly to center field to score Corbin Werth. Werth was a courtesy runner for catcher Dylan Haselhorst who hit a single earlier in the inning.

A pair of Hays errors in the bottom of the sixth allowed Hutchinson to take the lead again at 3-2. The Indians put a runner at third base with one out in the top of the seventh but could not score the tying run.

Brenden Stults allowed two runs on wo hits with two walks and four strikeouts over 5 innings. Tanner Boxberger pitched the sixth and gave up one unearned run on one hit and took the loss.

Hays finishes the season at 16-10. Hutchinson moved onto the regional final at 18-9.
