HAYS - Dalyn Schwarz hit a tie-breaking two-run homer and Carson Spray pitched a complete game five-hitter to lead the Hays High baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Great Bend on Thursday afternoon at Hays High School.
The Indians improve to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. Great Bend drops to 3-5 and 2-3 in the WAC.
Schwarz hit a line drive over the left field fence with one out in the fourth inning, scoring courtesy runner Jack Fields to give the Indians a 3-1 lead. Schwarz drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Garrett Wellbrock’s one-out single to right scored Dylan Dreiling in the bottom of the first to give the Indians a 1-0 lead in the first.
Great Bend tied the game on Brad Beck’s single in the third.
Spray allowed one unearned run on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks in the complete game victory.
Dalton Dale led the Indians' 11-hit attack going 3-for-3. Dreiling and Wellbrock both had two hits.
The Indians travel to Olathe on Saturday to play a doubleheader at Olathe Heritage Christian Academy.
