Leora Lee Forssberg, 90, Hays, died Saturday, April 5, 2026 at Homestead Assisted Living in Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 4, 1936 in Logan, Kansas, the daughter of George Everett and Ruth Irene (Brethouwer) Maley.  She was a graduate of Logan High School and a lifetime resident of Logan before moving to Hays in 2003.  On April 11, 1954 she was united in marriage to Donald D. Forssberg at the United Methodist Church in Logan, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Don’s death in 2020.

Leora was a member of the First Christian Church in Logan and then First United Methodist Church in Hays.  She enjoyed doing needlework, was an excellent seamstress, and loved her family.

Survivors include her three daughters Cynthia Affolter and husband David of Morganville, Connie Forssberg of Hays and friend Tim Scheck of Russell, and Christy Dykens and husband Jim of Altus, OK, a brother Ronald Maley and wife Dee of Milford, a sister Darlene Becker of Logan, her grandchildren Nathan Affolter and wife Laurel, Amy Affolter, Ryan Affolter and wife Megan and Joshua Dykens, and four great grandchildren, Bronson, Maddox, Chelsea, and Beau Affolter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don Forssberg, two brothers Harold and Darrel Maley, two sisters Donna Morris and Dolores Fox, a grandson Kyle Affolter, and a great granddaughter Brielle Affolter.

Inurnment will be at 11:00 am on Saturday May 23, 2026 in Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan, with Pastor Troy Buss officiating.  Memorials are suggested and payable to First United Methodist Church in Hays or to First Christian Church in Logan, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Condolences and memories of Leora may be shared with her family at www.haysmemorial.com
