Norman Sander Sr.

Norman Sander Sr., age 84, former Victoria, Kan., resident died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Hays. He was born July 7, 1936, at Victoria, Kansas to Anthony J. “Tony” and Anna (Goetz) Sander. He married Paulette (Dreiling) on Nov. 12, 1955, in Victoria. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 2020.

Norman loved the farm west of Victoria where he grew up, and he attended Victoria High School. He had a successful oil business, R & S Oil field Service that he and a partner ran for several years. He decided to sell out of the oil field and try trucking for several years. He lived in Hays and Gorham until they built the home at Victoria in 1965.

In 2010, they sold their home and traveled in their motorhome until moving to Knoxville, Tenn. in 2014. They moved back to Kansas in 2018, and settled in Hays. He loved to fish and hunt. He was one of those guys that could do anything. They both passed within weeks of each other. They will be deeply missed.

Survivors include one son, Norman Sander Jr, and wife, Sherry, Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter, Deborah Lickteig and husband, Dan, Greeley, Kan.; three grandchildren, Trent Karlin, Clayton Murray, Aaron Sander; one great-grandchild, Addison Karlin; two brothers, Vernon Sander and wife, Celeste, Victoria; Robert Sander and wife, Linda, Garden City; three sisters, Jane Legleiter and husband, Miles. Hays; Charlene Rohr and husband, Ed, Ellsworth; Carolyn Billinger and husband, Alan, Hays.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Vera Rome; and one infant brother, Alvin Sander.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Norman and his wife, Paulette, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria. Inurnment will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, at the church. The family suggest memorials to The Basilica of St. Fidelis in care of the mortuary.
