UPDATE: I-70 between Colby, Goodland reopened

UPDATE 4:50 p.m.

East- and westbound I-70 between Goodland and Colby has reopened, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

UPDATE at 4:40 p.m. from Sherman County Sheriff:

The wind is here and the accidents have started. Please slow down and be careful driving next to the semis. They can be blown over with little or no warning. We have had multiple accident on I-70 in Sherman county. I-70 is currently closed between Colby and Goodland. I-70 is currently open Goodland westbound.

All individuals involved in this accident and all accidents so far have been OK.

East- and westbound Interstate 70 is being closed between Goodland and Colby due to high winds, zero-visibility conditions and vehicle crashes, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. The closing took place at 2:40 p.m. and will remain until conditions improve.

Motorists traveling in northwest Kansas are asked to use caution and/or reduce travel due to weather conditions.
