Judy Anne Davis was born Feb. 11, 1938 in Great Bend to Allen Frank and A. Alice (Goodwin) Broadbooks. She passed away Dec. 18, 2021 in Norton, at the age of 83.

Judy grew up in Hays, and graduated from Hays High School. After graduation, she married and began raising her family with her husband on a farm south of Plainville. The family moved to rural Norton County in 1964 and she continued raising her four children while working as a high school para-educator and as a nurse’s aide at the medical clinic in Norton. She became a floral designer at a local floral shop, which she then purchased to create her own flower and gift business, Country Garden, which she ran for 20 years.

In 2000, Judy sold Country Garden and opened Brick House Candles & Gifts where she was a tea consultant and tea party hostess. In 2004 Judy retired and moved to Oberlin, where she lived with her daughter Leigh and continued to host tea parties for her family and friends until moving back to Norton in 2011.

She was a member of the Mid-Century Federated Club for 30 years, the Norton Chamber of Commerce for 20 years, where she served as president for two years, and The Haughty Hatters of Northwest Kansas Red Hat Club. Judy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norton, as well as the Oberlin United Methodist Church and was an active member of United Methodist Women for many years, serving in leadership positions in both Norton and Oberlin. Her passion was Christian education and mentoring young women in the mission of UMW.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Alice Broadbooks; daughters, Kimberly A. Davis and Leigh Anne Davis; brother, Steve Allen Broadbooks; sisters, Marci Jane Broadbooks, June Marie Kline and Allena Renee Reese; two nephews, one niece and one great-nephew.

She is survived by her children: Barbara Lynn Balser of Salina, Donald (Cynthia) Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Larry Joe Davis of Colorado; grandchildren: Monica Graves of Marceline, Mo., Lisa Lane of Wichita, Erica (Jimmy) Blackwell of Wamego, Sarah Davis of Austin, Texas, Madeline Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kallista Davis of Colorado, and Gabriell Davis of Colorado; great-grandsons, Steven and Jayson Graves of Marceline, Mo.; sister Malia (Harold) Westbrook of Alexander; brother-in-law, Norman Kline of Norton; sister-in-law, Helen Broadbooks of Blanchard, Okla., and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of life service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Norton. A private family inurnment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin.
