HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's soccer team won 1-0 over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday. The Tigers scored on a corner kick in the first half to take the lead and the defense kept the Rangers out of shooting position to secure the win and their third shutout of the season. FHSU improved to 3-0-1 on the year and NWOSU took its first loss of the year falling to 2-1-1.

Fort Hays State made its presence known on offense in the first half taking 11 shots and placing three on goal. The game-winning goal came from Gracen Chaney as she expertly bent a corner kick between the posts where it bounced off of the keeper's mitts into the net. The Tiger defense locked down the Rangers holding them to only three shots in the first half with none of them on target.

FHSU finished with 17 shots, putting five on target, while NWOSU managed six shots with two placed on goal. Keeper Isabel Robben picked up a pair of saves in her third shutout effort of the season and Rachel Brown managed four for the Rangers.

The 3-0-1 start for the FHSU women is their best since 2016, when they started 4-0. A win in the next contest would match the start of the 2016 squad, which tied in their fifth game that season

The Tigers will be on the road this week as they take on Nebraska-Kearney on Friday before taking on one of their in-state rivals Emporia State on Sunday. Both matches are non-conference, part of three-match span of non-conference games against MIAA teams.
