Virgil F. Lang, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away
peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. He was
83. Virgil was one of 12 children born to Mike and Emma Lang in Hays,
Kansas on May 28, 1938.
After graduating from high school Virgil proudly dedicated his time
serving his country in the United States Navy. Many years later he would
enjoy spending time with his fellow veterans at The American Legion
Tirey J. Ford Post 21. After his discharge from the navy Virgil
immediately began his career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company
/AT&T/ Lucent. He held a position there for over 30 years before
retiring in 1989. Virgil was a hard worker, an avid fisherman and a
collector. He had an astounding collection of coins, belt buckles and
western novels. Virgil was also a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching
boxing, UFC matches and cheering on his favorite football team, the
Kansas City Chiefs. Of course watching sports was always better when he
had Minsky’s hamburger pizza in hand though. Virgil never took a day for
granted and didn’t hesitate to get down on the floor to play with his
grandchildren. Virgil loved his family fiercely. He will be greatly
missed by all his family and beloved friends.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rose; daughters, Pamela
Graham (Stephen), Carolyn Compton, Michelle Brennan; son, Chuck Lang
(Cathy); step-sons, Joe Feagles (Dani), Allen Sharp; sisters, Edna
Critchfield, Irma Silkman; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and many siblings.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10th from 1-2pm at
Carson-Speaks Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 2pm with burial to
follow at Mount Washington Cemetery.
