NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State men's track and field team is ranked 10th in the initial 2023 NCAA Division II indoor rating index, released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Tigers currently boast six marks that rank inside the top 10 nationally, including pole vaulters Ryan Stanley and Jacob Clark tied for second in II with a clearance of 17-2.75. FHSU also has two individuals in the top 10 in the 800m run, with Ethan Lang ranked fifth (1:51.16) and Trever Medina ranked 10th (1:51.90). The 4x400m relay of Lang, Medina, Hayden Albright and Nolan Churchman is sixth in DII with a time of 3:14.81, while Churchman is seventh in the heptathlon with a total of 5,303 points.
FHSU is the third-highest MIAA program in the initial poll, with Pittsburg State ranking No. 1 and Missouri Southern coming in eighth.
Both the men and women rank seventh in this week's region rankings. Event squad ranking are scheduled to begin next week, with conference rankings starting the following week.
The Tigers will next travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the Jayhawk Classic Invitational on Friday (Jan. 27). FHSU has one month to wrap up preparations for the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships, slated for February 24-26 in Pittsburg, Kan.
