The Ellis County Commission has given the go-ahead once again this year for the sale and discharge of fireworks within the unincorporated areas of Ellis County.

The commission voted Monday to lift the ban on fireworks, which will allow fireworks July 2, 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

County Administrator and Fire Chief Darin Myers suggested keeping the dates the same as the city of Hays.

“Just to help eliminate confusion, that's the bulk of (when) all the fireworks are being discharged,” Myers said. “They’re a little bit different in Ellis and Victoria.”

Myers said there was just one fireworks-related incident in Ellis County last year and just two were reported the year before.

“Everybody’s done a good job the last couple of years of going out and celebrating the holiday and staying safe and not having any fires,” Myers said.
