KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State's Derek Woolwine has been named the first MIAA Baseball Hitter of the Week for the 2026 season, announced Monday by the league office.

The Tiger first baseman put together a huge first week after going 10-for-12 at the plate in a three-game series against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Woolwine posted a slash line of .833/.857/1.917 and racked up four doubles, three home runs, seven runs, 10 RBI and 23 total bases.

The senior homered in all three games against the Mountain Lions and turned in a trio of multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances. He currently leads the Division II in doubles and total bases while ranking second in slugging percentage, third in batting average and on-base percentage and fourth in RBI and home runs.

Woolwine and the rest of his Tiger teammates will be on the road again this weekend (Feb. 6-8) when they head to Arkadelphia, Ark. for the Henderson State Invitational.
