GREAT BEND - The Hays High girls finished runner-up by 23 points to Andale at the Jack Bowman Invitational on Thursday. The Hays boys were fourth behind Andale, Dodge City and Bishop Carroll.
The Hays girls claimed four gold medals and grabbed a total of thirteen top three finishes.
Brooke Bieker helped lead the girls' charge with a pair of first place finishes. She captured gold with a half inch win in triple jump at 36-3.50. Bieker took the top spot in javelin at 126-0.
Zoe Winter also claimed gold in shot put at 38-6.50. Syndey Lewallen broke under a minute again in the 400 meters at 59.49 for a gold. Aralen Maupin placed third at 1:01.94.
Lyndi Zimmerman was second in the 100 meters at 12.20. Her time broke Diana Horton's 1980 school record of 12.23. Kamryn McCall placed sixth at 12.53.
The girls went 2-3 in long jump with Lynsi Kanak (18-0.25) and McCall (17-9.50.)
Kenlee Vehige went 9-8 in pole vault for silver.
Chloe Crawford placed third in high just at 5-2. Audrey Yarmer brought home silver in the 3200 meters at 11:51.38.
McCall and Zimmerman placed fourth and fifth in the 200 meters.
Cassidy Smith added points with a fourth place finish in discus at 116-3.
The girls' relays also collected points. The, 4x100 claimed gold at 49.46 while the 4x800 took second.
The boys won three events and had five total top three finishes.
Archer Amrein won the boys' triple jump at 42-5.25. Gus Corsair won discus by over eight feet with a toss of 163-9. Parker McGuire, who was hurt at the end of the first Hays High football game in September, took fifth.
Three boys placed in shot put. Jaxson Chartier led the way with a first place finish at 52-4. Caleb Englert was right behind in second at 51-10. Tanner Geist placed fifth at 49-1.50.
The boys collected points from two long jumpers. Amrein (21-9.50) was runner-up and Riley Windholz (20.950) placed sixth.
Jace Myers went 13-2 in pole vault for a fourth place finish.
Corbin Giebler was fourth in javelin at 152-6.
Brogan Albers was sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.
