
Aside from light flurries, snow has thus far stayed west of the Hays area for the most part Wednesday, but the National Weather Service in Dodge City is still expecting significant accumulation as the evening wears on.
Up to 4 inches of snow is possible in Ellis County, the NWS forecast predicted, with cold, blustery winds driving the wind chill value below zero. A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.
Farther northwest, the NWS in Goodland said over a foot of snow is possible in areas. In Kit Carson County is eastern Colorado, 6 inches was already on the ground early Wednesday afternoon. With winds gusting at 30 mph, reduced visibility and slick roads have made travel hazardous.
