It was a scorcher Tuesday in Hays, but not a record-setter.

The K-State Ag Research Center recorded a high temperature Tuesday of 109 degrees — just shy of the 110 degrees measured on July 19, 1939, which was also recorded in 2011.

After a "cooler" day with the mercury only expected to hit 98 on Wednesday, expect triple-digit heat to return through Saturday, the National Weather Service reported.

A high of 103 is projected Thursday, with a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms Thursday night. Friday's high is predicted at 103, with a 104-degree day expected Saturday. There is a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms Saturday, as well.

Another "cool" day could be on the way Sunday, when the high is expected to hit 98.

There is a better chance for moisture Sunday night, with a 40 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms.
