GREAT BEND – The Hays Larks were held to just three runs in their season opener Thursday in Great Bend as they come up short against the BatCats 5-3.
Great Bend scored two runs in the fourth and fifth inning before the Larks got on the board with three in the top of the sixth but the BatCats got one more in the sixth.
The BatCats were able to get to Larks reliever Brayden Luikart for four runs, just two were earned in an inning and a third.
In the Larks three-run sixth Jack Torosian singled in a run, Austin Jaslove added an RBI double and Tyler Larue drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the BatCats lead to 4-3 but Great Bend got a run back in the bottom of inning and held on for the 5-3 win.
Jack Torosian was three-for-four with an RBI and a run scored. Tanner Rice was two-for-four.
The same two teams will meet Friday night in Hays at 7pm at Larks Park.
