Robert L. “Bob” Koerner, 89, Hays, died Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Via Christi Village.
He was born June 9, 1932, in Hays, the son of Albert and Veronica (Dinges) Koerner. He was a graduate of Hays High School, and for 35 years was a custodian at Wilson Elementary School, where he was known by all as Grandpa. On July 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Urbanek in Hays, and they were married nearly 35 years before she died on May 2, 1989. His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325. He enjoyed fishing, was a great storyteller and enjoyed visiting, never knew a stranger, and would greet everyone with a smile.
Survivors include his son: Tim Koerner and wife Doreen of Victoria, daughter: Debbie Eller and husband Tony of Ellis, eight grandchildren: Michelle Slinkard and husband Duston, Amanda Moore and husband Jess, Keith Ashcraft and wife Laura, Dylan Eller and fiancé Sarah Eaton, Isaac Eller and wife Laura, Lindsey Lisenby and husband Jeremy, Scott Koerner and wife Janelle, and Evan Koerner and wife Linnea, and 13 great grandchildren: Carly Koerner, Jackson Koerner, Charlotte Velock, Barrett Koerner, Dorance Koerner, Shelby Lisenby, Eli Lisenby, Caden Moore, Riley Moore, Emma Ashcraft, Josie Eller, Colten Anderson, and Amelia Anderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 5:30 pm followed by a Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary, all on Wednesday at the funeral home.
