⚾ Larks rally past A's, remain undefeated

HAYS – The Hays Larks scored two in the seventh and five in the eighth as they rallied from an early five-run deficit to beat the Dodge City A’s 12-7 in a non-league game Sunday night at Larks Park. The Larks went 5-0 on the homestand and have now won 21-straigth at home dating back to last season.

Dodge City (8-6-1) took advantage of an error and scored three runs in the first. They added two in the second and lead 6-1 entering the bottom of the third.

The Larks (12-0) scored four in third to close the gap to 6-5. Braden Cox hit a solo home run to right field, Dylan LaRue singled home a run then Sean Keenen hit a two-run homer to right.

Hays took the lead with two in the seventh. After three-straight walks loaded the bases with one out, the Larks tied the game on wild pitch then took the lead for good on a Cox single.

Hays Larks then scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth. They score on RBI singles from Hutch Russell and Sean Keenan and an RBI double from Brayden Huebner. They also score on a groundout and bases loaded walk.

Hunter Cowgill (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts and no walks and picked up the win.

Starting pitcher Ty Schmeidler allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 2 innings. Justin Peinado followed and allowed one run on one hit over the next four innings.
