SALINA – The Ellis girls had a pair of wrestlers earn medals Friday at the girls division II state championship tournament Friday in Salina.
At 143 pounds freshman Kaydawn Haag earned a second-place finish in her first ever trip to the state tournament.
Haag opened the tournament with a first period fall over Isabelle Masters of Burlingame.
In the championship semifinals Haag earned a 7-1 win over Trego’s Sydney Boyle.
In the finals Livia Swift of Pratt defeated Haag 4-2 to claim the title.
Haag earned a second-place finished.
Trego's Boyle finished 3rd.
Junior Haley Cranwell finished fifth at 126 pounds.
Cranwell opened the tournament with a second period fall over Gabby Rusk of Fort Scott.
In the second round Cranwell lost by a first period fall to the eventual champion Jordyn Knecht of Paola.
Cranwell went 1-1 on the consolation side of the bracket, wrapping up the tournament with a 9-7 win over Rusk of Fort Scott in the fifth-place match.
