Yvonne Mary Palmer, 81, passed away July 30, 2020, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born August 21, 1938, in Dodge City, the adopted daughter of Joseph Vincent and Dessa (Mayer) Closen. Yvonne married Gerald Wyant, and later divorced. She then married John Davis Palmer Aug. 21, 1992, in Great Bend. He survives.
A long-time resident of Hoisington, coming from Dodge City, Yvonne was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Learning a solid work ethic at a very early age, Yvonne started working at the drive in movie theater, at the age of 14, in Dodge City, later working in retail sales for Gambles, Gibson’s, K-Mart, JCPenney and most recently, Walmart. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, and the Altar Society.
Survivors include, husband, John of the home; one son, Ronald Wyant of Hoisington; two grandsons, Dustin Wyant and wife Aimee of Great Bend and Dillon Wyant of Angels Camp, Cal.; one granddaughter, Jayci Wyant of Larned; three step sons, Scott Palmer and wife Elizabeth of Edmond, Okla., Steven Palmer of Texas and Terry Palmer of Texas; three great grandchildren, Jayla, DJ and Kiera Wyant; two step grandchildren, Angelica and Anthony; and one niece, Kim Hall. Yvonne was preceded in passing by her parents; one son, Michael Wyant; and one brother, Donald Closen.
Graveside services will be held at Hoisington Cemetery, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday Aug. 5, 2020, with Father Anselm Eke, MSP presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 am to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and a rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
