Marvin M. Herrman, 89, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Marvin was born July 19, 1932, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Nicholas J. and Veronica (Legleiter) Herrman.  He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.  He was a 1950 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, where he was formerly an usher and on the parish council.  He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2970, La Crosse, Kansas, where he was a former District Deputy.  He was a 4th degree member of the Pope Paul VI Assembly, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, both of La Crosse, Kansas, and a member of the Lions Club, Rush Center, Kansas.

Throughout his life, Marvin farmed, and owned Modern Shoe Repair Service, La Crosse, Kansas.  With his wife, Florence, he owned and operated the Corner Grill, which later became Family Castle, La Crosse, Kansas.  They owned and operated 4 Corners Liquor Store, Rush Center, Kansas, and La Crosse Liquor, La Crosse, Kansas, for a combination of approximately 20 years.  Marvin also worked for Flame Engineering, La Crosse, Kansas, for many years.

Marvin enjoyed visiting family and his grandchildren, playing cards, fishing, making rosaries, and especially enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals games.

On May 18, 1954, he married Florence Oborny at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas. 

Survivors include:  his wife, Florence Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas; one son, Michael Herrman, Topeka, Kansas; one daughter in law, Melodie  Herrman Pruett, Topeka, Kansas;  five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one sister in law, Twila Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Chris, Elmer, Alvin, Albert, Alex, Kenneth, and Raymond; and six sisters, Emma Moeder, Agnes Herrman, Bertha Sauber, Edith Bollig, Elenora Moeder, and Sister Louise Herrman.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. 

Church visitation will be Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 10:00  A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating.  Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to masses or St. Michael’s Catholic Church Roof Fund, La Crosse, Kansas, or Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.
