The five Hays city commissioners will be sworn into office on Thursday by Jami Breit, city clerk.

It's the first meeting of 2026 for the governing body, which will then be reorganized.

A new mayor and vice-mayor will be nominated and elected. A tribute to the outgoing mayor, Sandy Jacobs, will follow.

Commission members Alaina Cunningham, Sandy Jacobs, Shaun Musil, Mason Ruder will serve four-year terms. The incoming David Vilaysing, who defeated Reese Barrick in the fall general election, will serve a two-year term.

The only business on the agenda is a vote to approve the city commission rules of procedure. They contain a complete set of regulations, standards, and procedures that govern the commission proceedings.

The complete Jan. 8 agenda is available here. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. in Hays City Hall, 1507 Main.
