Robert I. “Bob” Hall

Robert I. “Bob” Hall, 95, longtime Hays resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021 at the Fort Dodge Soldiers’ Home.

He was born March 28, 1926 in Hays, the son of Robert L. and Edith (Irwin) Hall.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in WWII and was a member of the Occupational Forces stationed in Japan following the war.  He re-enlisted and served in the Korean War.  Bob was a rancher and operated Sweetwater Ranch.  On July 1, 1968 he was united in marriage to Leonilda “Nilda” Orth in Salina and they were married 45 years before she died on Jan. 18, 2014.  He was a member of the Masons, the Ellis County Rural Fire Department, active in the Civil Air Patrol, achieving the rank of Captain, and a life member of the American Legion and VFW.  Bob enjoyed collecting antiques and firearms in his spare time and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his two sons: Gary L. Hall of Norton and George L. Hall and wife Janet of Liberal, a daughter: Denise Bruce of Newton, two step daughters: Darlene Gansel and husband Richard of Hill City and Patricia Herbig and husband David of Blue Springs, Mo., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nilda, a son: Robert I. Hall Jr. two sisters: Margaret Stebens and husband Johnny and Mildred Zinszer and husband Richard.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.

Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.
