Donald Howard Hays

Donald Howard Hays, 95, of Norton, KS passed away on November 15, 2020, at the Andbe Home in Norton.

Donald grew to manhood on the family farms near Densmore, Sand Creek TWP, Norton County, and on Crooked Creek, Grant TWP, Norton County, Kansas, where his great grandparents, John and Caroline (Ritter) had come to preach and farm. Donald attended school at Timberlake School, District 27, having Velma Walcott, Maxine Stewart, Francis Hewett, and Goldie Turner, for teachers. Later he moved to Norton and in 2008 he moved to the Andbe Home.

Donald, the son of Floyd Everett Hays and Georgia Bertha (McGarity) Hays, was born March 31, 1925, near Densmore, Norton County, Kansas. He was a farmer and stockman. He also liked to make things and to do mechanics. He even made a boat when Harlan Lake was new and enjoyed boating on it as well as at Lake Sebelius. He had a garden and from it canned vegetables and made pickles that his family enjoyed.

Donald never strayed far from Norton County but did go to Denver and Pella, IA to see family. He was always a happy, caring person and was quite well known about Norton and Phillips Counties.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; niece, Susan; nephews, Richard and Mark Getty and sister-in-law, Etta Hays. He is survived by his brother, Robert; sister, Rose Getty, and sister-in-law, Faith Hays and nieces and nephews: Gale Hays, Kathy, Phillip, and Paul Hays and Diane Getty.
