Donald Wayne Richmeier was born January 19, 1950 in Hoxie, Kansas to Albert “Dutch” and Janice (Madden) Richmeier. He passed away peacefully at home August 4, 2026
Wayne attended grade and high school in Morland, graduating in 1968. He furthered his education at Hutch Juco and finished at FHSU with a degree in business. After graduation, Wayne worked at an elevator in Ada, Kansas for a year before deciding to return home to be the third generation to operate the family farm and raise cattle.
When Wayne transferred to FHSU, it didn’t take long for him to reconnect with his high school sweetheart, Lois Lindenman. Wayne and Lois were married August 20, 1971. They fell just short of 55 years together and were proud parents of Aaron and Stephanie.
Sports were always an important part of Wayne’s life, especially basketball, baseball, and playing on town teams as an adult. As much as he loved playing sports, it was even more special to him when he was a spectator watching his children and grandchildren compete. He would become so involved that he could even referee from the stands! He also could be found teaching his grandchildren to drive all over the country roads when they came to visit, which was a sport of its own!
Family was very important to Wayne, and he worked hard to provide for them. This was demonstrated by working two jobs in college, and supplementing farming with winter jobs in the oil field and officiating basketball games.
Even though Wayne was dedicated to working long hours, he developed a love for golf and would squeeze in time for men’s night, couples’ night, and tournaments. But his favorite was all the golf trips over the years with good friends and family. Oh, the entertaining stories they brought home!
Another favorite pastime was playing cards with friends. It’s hard to say which he enjoyed most; socializing, actually playing cards, or being the big winner.
In later years, Wayne and Lois enjoyed numerous trips with friends and family. He loved exploring the history of new places and had a knack for starting up conversations with complete strangers.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Lois, and his children: Aaron and wife Becky Richmeier of Hill City, and Stephanie and husband Nick Wuertz of Olathe. He also leaves to mourn four grandchildren: Kyle Richmeier of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Kaylee Richmeier of Hays, and Hannah and Eli Wuertz of Olathe. He is also survived by his sister and spouse, Laura and Doug Malsam of WaKeeney and several in-laws: John Lindenman, Ken Schamberger, Rita and Duane Feely, Caroline and Ron Bartlett, Thea and Lance Pfeifer, Julia Rabuck, Wade, and Chris Lindenman; along with many other relatives. He was preceded in death by sisters-in-law: Debbie Lindenman, Doreen Schamberger, Denise Lindenman, and brother-in-law, Roger Rabuck.
Visitation for Wayne will be at Stinemetz Funeral Home, 522 N. Pomeroy Ave. Hill City, Kansas, August 10, 2026 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. with family present.
Memorial Service will be at the Hill City Methodist Church, 118 N. 4th Ave., Hill City, Kansas; Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
Due to the vacation of the florist in Hill City, the family suggests flowers be ordered at The Unique Boutique in WaKeeney, phone #785- 743-8149. The florist will deliver them to the Funeral Home.
