NESS CITY — Trego kept its perfect season alive Friday night, rolling past Ness City 52-6 in a wire-to-wire victory that showcased the Golden Eagles’ balance, efficiency, and physicality on both sides of the ball.

Behind senior quarterback Ashton Wynn, the Golden Eagles scored touchdowns on seven of eight possessions, with every scoring drive lasting five plays or fewer. Trego improved to 6-0 overall, while Ness City dropped to 1-5.

Ness City opened the game with the football but quickly went three-and-out. From there, Trego took control, marching 39 yards in five plays, capped by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Wynn to Cass Smith to take an 8-0 lead. After a defensive stop, the Golden Eagles struck again — another 3-yard touchdown pass from Wynn, this time to Vladon Crawford, extending the margin to 16-0 late in the first quarter.

The Eagles answered with their lone score of the night, converting a 4th-and-3 when Hunter Stenzel found Braddix Bozarth for a 37-yard gain before sneaking in from the 1-yard line to make it 16-6. But Trego immediately countered as Wynn threw his third touchdown pass of the quarter, connecting with Aaron Samson from 17 yards out as the first period expired.

Trego kept its momentum rolling in the second quarter. Jack Conness added a pair of touchdown runs — from seven and nine yards out — as the Golden Eagles’ ground game began to take over. Wynn added a 5-yard scramble in the final minute before halftime, giving Trego a commanding 46-6 lead at the break after a blocked punt set up the short field.

Trego opened the second half with one final scoring drive, a four-play, 66-yard march capped by a 13-yard touchdown run from Crawford that triggered the 45-point mercy rule. The Golden Eagles’ backups took over from there as the game ended midway through the third quarter.

Wynn finished a near-perfect night, completing 6 of 7 passes for 52 yards and three touchdowns, adding 21 rushing yards and a score. Conness led all rushers with 139 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Crawford accounted for two total scores.

Trego piled up 237 yards of total offense (185 rushing, 52 passing) and went 7-for-8 in the red zone, continuing a season-long trend of efficiency. The defense held Ness City to just 94 total yards and 0-for-8 on third downs.

For Ness City, Stenzel completed 3 of 5 passes for 53 yards and a touchdown on the ground, while Bozarth added 26 rushing yards and a 37-yard reception.

The win keeps Trego atop the 8-Man Division I District 7 standings and sets up a pivotal stretch run as the Golden Eagles continue their pursuit of a district title and an unbeaten regular season.
