KEARNEY, Neb. - The FHSU women's soccer team took down Nebraska-Kearney 1-0 on Friday. The Tigers netted their lone goal in the first half and held off the Lopers to pick up their third consecutive shutout and fourth overall for the season. Fort Hays State improved to 4-0-1, while UNK fell to 0-4-1.
The Tiger defense made an impressive showing as they did not allow a single shot to the Lopers in the first half. FHSU netted its lone goal in the 32nd minute when Montserrat Diaz collected a Reilly Madden pass that ricocheted off a UNK player. The redirection of the ball left Diaz open at the top of the box and she fired it past the keeper. The final shot count was in favor of the Tigers 8-2, all but one on target. Isabel Robben saved the only Loper shot placed on goal and Mackenzie Smith saved six shots between the posts for the Lopers.
Fort Hays State will be back in action on Sunday (Sep. 11) as they face Emporia State in another non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Emporia.
