The National Weather Service is warning of dangerously cold wind chills arriving in western Kansas next week.

The NWS in Dodge City said an intense arctic air mass will move into most of the central U.S. by mid- to late next week. Wind chills by Thursday morning are expected to dip to 15 below zero in the Hays area, and as far as 20 below zero farther northwest.

This weekend will bring slightly warmer temperatures, with winds expected to calm by Saturday. The high Saturday is projected to be 40, rising to 45 on Sunday. On Monday, however, the projected high is only 26 degrees, with an overnight low in the single digits.

No precipitation is in the forecast for at least the next week, the NWS predicted.
