The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for a large portion of northwest Kansas until 9 p.m. Monday.
According to Trego County Emergency Management Director Kathleen Fabrizius, storms are expected to develop around Tribune and move north-northeast before moving eastward.
Large hail — possibly baseball-sized — is possible, along with heavy rain and possible flash flooding. The NWS also said wind gusts could reach 70 mph.
While Ellis County is not included in the tornado watch, there is a slight risk of severe, with the greatest likelihood between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.
There is a chance of continued thunderstorms through the week before skies are expected to clear Friday.
