🥎 HHS snaps Monarchs win streak with doubleheader sweep

HAYS – The Hays High softball team snapped TMP-Marian’s eight-game winning streak with a doubleheader sweep Thursday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex. The Indians held on to win game one 11-10 then took game two 10-0.

HHS has now won six-straight and nine of their last 10 and improved to 10-3. The Monarchs are now 11-5.

Game 1: Hays 11, TMP-Marian 10
TMP-Marian scored four runs in the top of the first inning, the Indians answered with five in the bottom of the first. They then added two in the second along with single runs in the third and fourth. The Monarchs got a run in the sixth then five in the top of the sixth but were retired in order in the seventh.

Dezarae Schmidt and Ellie Dreiling both had three of the Indians 13 hits. Schmidt had two doubles. Morgen Berry also had a double and drove in two runs. Riley Dreher had two RBIs and picked up the complete game victory in the circle. The sophomore allowed five earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Brooke Koeningsman led the Monarchs with two home runs, a double and four RBIs. She hit a solo homer in the fifth and three-run blast in the sixth.

Teagan Gottschalk went the distance in the circle and took the loss allowing 11 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits with one strikeout and four walks.

Game 2: Hays 10, TMP-Marian 0 (5 innings)
Aubree Thomas pitched a five-inning no-hitter and the Indians hit three home runs in the run-rule victory.

Thomas struck out five and walked none.

Morgen Berry, Ellie Dreiling and Dezarae Schmidt all homered. Schmidt hit a two-run shot in the Indians six-run first. Berry and Dreiling went back-to-back in a three-run second. Berry and Riley Dreher both went 3-for-3 and both drove in two runs. Ashlyn Zimmer also drove in two runs.

Teagan Gottshalk allowed all 10 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits with one walk and no strikeouts and suffered the loss.
