Marilyn Jean Malleck

Marilyn Jean Malleck, age 79, of Ness City, Kan., formerly of Indianola, Neb., passed away at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., on January 24th, 2022.

Marilyn was born in McCook, Neb., on June 22, 1942, to Thomas Patrick and Elizabeth Catherine (‘Lilian’ Colling) McConville. She attended school in Indianola, graduating from Indianola High School in 1960. On Aug. 13, 1960, Marilyn married Dennis ‘Pete’ Malleck. She was a charter member of the Russell Cross-Trailers Square Dance Club, an active member of the Petticoat Poppers Square Dance Club of Hays, Kan., and was a devout member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Ness City, where she attended daily mass. She was an avid Bridge player, and played in groups in both Hays and Ness City. 

Marilyn enjoyed her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a great passion for the unborn and attended the March for Life at least 30 times. She was a longtime board member for Right to Life of Kansas. Marilyn was very involved on the state and local level for the unborn. 

She was preceded in death by husband Pete, her parents, brothers LaMoine and Dick McConville and sisters Catherine Remington and Eileen Wane.  Marilyn is survived by daughter, Vanessa and husband, Terry Rinehart of Burlington, Colo.; four sons, Kevin of Topeka, Kan., Tom and wife, Lynn of Basehor, Kan., Paul and wife, Kelly of Pace, Florida and Matt and wife, Megan of Basehor, Kan.; grandchildren, Josh Rinehart (Clarissa); Nick Rinehart (Samantha), Ben Rinehart (Krista), Andrew Malleck (Casey), Adam Malleck (Marah), Michael Malleck (Amber), Tony Malleck (Marissa), Josh Koerner (Mallory), Emma Malleck, Erica Malleck, Madison Malleck and Mason Malleck. 18 great-grandchildren; brother Robert and wife, Kathy McConville of Indianola; and sister, Cecelia Saladen of Santa Fe, N.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 29th at 10:30 AM, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola. Visitation will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Friday, January 28th from 10a.m. until after Rosary, with the family greeting guests from 5 to 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Indianola. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com.
