Ellis County unemployment rate less than state, surrounding counties

The Ellis County unemployment rate was up down slightly from 2.7% in October to 2.5% in November.

All of northwest Kansas remains below 4% unemployment for November. Ellis County has one of the lowest jobless rates in the area. Unemployment is up in Ellis County from November 2023, when it was at a very low 1.3%

Ellis County's jobless rate is about a percentage point lower than the statewide average.

Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services division of the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5% in November. This is an increase from 3.4% in October and an increase from 2.6% in November 2023.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 7,900 from October. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs increased by 7,100 over the month, while government increased by 800.

Since November 2023 Kansas' seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 19,100. This change is due to an increase of 14,100 private sector jobs and an increase of 5,000 government jobs.
