Leland Martin Nuss, 97, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, August 08, 2020, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Leland was born on the family farm on December 30, 1922, in Russell County near Milberger, Kansas, the son of Edward and Amelia (Karst) Nuss. He grew up in and attended local country schools in Milberger. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Frances Alberta Holl on October 16, 1953, in Russell, Kansas. He took over the family farm and loved working hard to make the farm as successful as possible. Leland and Frances were blessed with two children, a son Monte and a daughter Sandra. They were members of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas. He was an avid Kansas University Basketball fan and loved attending his granddaughters sporting events. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include his wife Frances of Russell, Kansas; son Monte Nuss and wife Mary of Russell, Kansas; daughter Sandra Doherty of Hutchinson, Kansas; 5 grandchildren David (Susan) and Brian Doherty, Erica (Ryan) Feil and Kaci and Whitney Nuss; 3 great grandchildren Bryson and Lawson Feil and Andy Doherty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Delmer, Earlin and Eugene Nuss; sister Ruth Mai and great-granddaughter Carly Doherty.

Graveside services will be held by the family at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas, at a later date. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 14, 2020 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Memorials may be given to Russell Recreation Commission and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
