GARDEN CITY — Houston Hassler, 75, died on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021
at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on Feb. 3,
1946 at Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Algie Houston and Alma
(Kroll) Hassler. He married Verna Mae Dunkel on June 4, 1966 at Lakin.
Houston moved with his family to southwest Kansas when he was 15 years
old from Mount Rose, Mo. He lived in Big Bow and Lakin areas and
moved to Garden City in 1968. He spent his career working for area
farmers. He attended St Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. He never
knew a stranger and enjoyed attending auctions to visit with people. He
enjoyed driving country roads to see the country and looking at old
farmsteads. In his earlier years he broke horses, liked working on Ford
pickups and was known as the local Volkswagen guru. Recently he liked
to travel.
He is survived by his wife- Verna, eight children, brother, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, three brothers, three sisters and one great-grandson.
Funeral service will at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28 at First Assembly
Of God Church in Garden City with Rev Nathan Sheridan officiating.
Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
