Hays City Commission is set to vote on a price and design agreement for the new Hays Police/Municipal Courts facility on Thursday.
The facility will be in the former Astra Bank, 1100 Fort.
PWC, Hays, has presented a guaranteed maximum price of $5.9 million to renovate the existing Astra Bank, providing the police station more than twice the operational space it has.
Astra Bank is constructing a new facility at 27th and Main, which is expected to be open by Sept. 1.
Commissioners will also consider adopting increases in cemetery fees, which have not been updated for 20 years.

If approved by commissioners, the city is slated to pay a 30% increase in the premium for its 2025-2026 property/liability insurance policy renewal from MPR.
In December 2023, the city commission voted to award industrial revenue bonds for Grow Hays’s MicroFactory project. Due to the loan arrangement between Grow Hays and the Northwest Kansas Economic Innovation Center that contributed to the construction of the MicroFactory, Grow Hays is requesting a subordination agreement on Thursday that subordinates the city’s position to that of the center.
