⚾ Larks blow out Bee Jays, tied for first in RMBL

HAYS – The Hays Larks used a big day from Garrett Gruell and a couple of big innings and beat the Liberal Bee Jays 13-2 Tuesday night at Larks Park to move into a first place tie with the Bee Jays atop the Rocky Mountain Baseball League.

Gruell had three of the Larks (21-5, 16-4 RMBL) 14 hits and drove in five runs in the game which was called after seven innings by run rule. Taber Stokes drove in three runs and scored four times.

Gruell got the Larks (21-5, 16-4 RMBL) on the board in the first with a sacrifice fly. He added an RBI single to cap the five-run second. Trent Baker got the scoring started in the frame with an RBI double then later scored on two-out single from Taber Stokes. Wilbert Espinal followed with a two-run double then Gruell’s RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.

Gruell had an RBI triple in the fourth to push the lead to 7-0. He drove in his fifth run of the game with a single in the fifth which pushed the lead to 12-0. Kaiden Ashton started the scoring in the fifth with a bases-loaded walk. Taber Stokes drove in two more with a single.

Liberal (18-4, 16-4 RMBL) scored both of their runs in the top of the sixth on a Robert Orr two-run homer. The Bee Jays have lost two or three since their 13-game win-streak.

Dalton Campbell (3-0) allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over six innings and picked up the win. Trent Baker faced six batters and got the final three outs in the seventh.
