⚾ Monarchs split in Abilene

ABILENE – The TMP-Marian baseball team split their doubleheader at Abilene Friday. The Monarchs won game one 3-2 then dropped the second contest 8-2. They are now 7-3 on the season.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 3, Abilene 2
The Monarchs scored three runs with two outs in the top of the first then held on the rest of the way.

Jace Wentling opened the game with a double then scored on Chet Irvin’s two-out double. Following a Bryce Conner single, Nicholas Herrman singled to right scoring Irvin and Conner.

Ceden Morgan allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six innings and picked up the win. Herrman worked around two singles in the seventh and got the save.

Game 2: Abilene 8, TMP-Marian 2
Abilene scored twice in the bottom of the first then added three in the third to build the lead to 5-1. They tacked on a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The Monarchs scored single runs in the third and fourth on a bases loaded walk to Mason Davison and an error.

Mark Rack pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits with three strike outs and a walk and took the loss.
