EMPORIA – The Hays High boys track and field team had three individual champions along with a relay and won the team title at the Emporia 5A Regional Friday at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium. It's the second straight year the Indians have won the regional meet, scoring 109 points, 38 ahead of second place Great Bend.
Jordan Dale won the high jump, Grayson Walburn the discus and Wyatt Waddell the javelin. The 4x100 meter relay team of Trent Summers, Archie Keamonie, Malik Bah and Chason VanDerWege also won gold.
VenDerWege qualified in three events. In addition to being on the winning relay he finished second in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters.
Great Bend won the girls team title with 151 1/2 points. Hays High was third with ans were third with 60 1/2.
The Indian girls qualified five individuals in six events and two relays. Lilian McGrath, who qualified in four events, won the long jump. She finished second in the 200 meters and was on the 4x100 relay which finished second and the 4x400 which placed third. Broolynn Lewallen and Amelia Jaeger both qualified in three events. Lewallen was third in the 100 meter hurdles and on both relays. Jaeger was third in the 400 meters and also on both relays.
