HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 8-2 overall for the season with a 7-0 win over Bethany College (Kan.) on Tuesday (Mar. 24). The Tigers swept all matches contested, winning all three doubles contests and all six singles contests.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Molly Gaddis and Bethan Gill cruised to a 6-1 win, while the No. 3 team of Janae Montoya and Ines Steeman won 6-4. The No. 2 match was tight as Ines Latorre and Diana Souza pulled out a 7-6 win, taking the tiebreak 7-5.
All but one of the Tigers' singles wins were in straight sets. Montoya battled back from a 6-4 loss in her first set to win 6-2 and then 10-4 in the tiebreak to determine her match at No. 4. Souza avoided a tiebreak set by winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) over Karee Adam at the No. 6 position. Latorre limited her opponent to the fewest points at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-3. Gill won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 and Gaddis won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Steeman cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5.
The Tigers enter MIAA play this weekend in Hays. They host Northwest Missouri State on Friday (Mar. 27) at 3 p.m. and then Missouri Western on Saturday (Mar. 28) at 2 p.m.
