👟 Tigers have two champs on day one in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State men's and women's track and field teams picked up two event victories and had two other runner-up finishes Friday (Feb. 13) on day one of the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic.

Reba Mader and Amelia Foster went 1-2 across the finish line in the 600y run, with Mader finishing in 1:24.18 to post the second-fastest time at FHSU during the DII era. Foster was close behind, completing the race in 1:25.02 to etch her name fourth on the FHSU DII era chart.

Will Wegerer placed first in the men's pole vault open competition, clearing a personal-best 15-5 on his first attempt. Rylan White finished third after a top clearance of 14-7.25. Lillian Finke finished second in the women's pole vault open event, soaring over the bar at 11-7.

Emma Slade reached the finals in the weight throw after a top heave of 52-0.75, finishing ninth out of 39 competitors and ranking seventh on the FHSU DII era list.

Nakari Morrical-Palmer finished 16th out of 76 runners in the 200m, crossing the line in 21.94.

Bradley Nkosi finished 13th in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, completing the race in 8.30. Jayden Michaelis was close behind in 16th with a personal-best time of 8.42, moving him up one spot to seventh on the FHSU DII era performance list.

The Tigers will wrap up the weekend in Pittsburg on Saturday (Feb. 14) when 29 more Tigers compete on day two of the event beginning at noon.
