PLAINVILLE – The TMP-Marian Monarchs closed out the regular season with a split doubleheader Tuesday night at Plainville.
The Lady Monarchs cruised to a 71-29 victory while the boys come up short, falling 60-45.
GIRLS: TMP 71, Plainville 29
The TMP girls built an early double-figure lead and then
outscored Plainville 31-10 in third quarter as they cruised to a 71-29 victory.
Gracyn Schipper scored the first two field goals to put TMP up 4-0 early in the first quarter.
Then with the Monarchs (10-11, 6-4) leading 4-2, TMP strung together a 20-2 run to end the first quarter and begin the second quarter as they built a 24-4 lead with five minutes to play in the first half.
TMP led 30-13 at halftime.
After going just three-for-12 from three in the first half TMP made six three pointers in the third quarter as they outscored Plainville 31-10 building a 61-23 lead through three quarters.
With the running clock in the fourth quarter TMP went on to the 71-29 victory.
The 71 points was a second-high for the Monarchs.
Brooke Koenigsman led all scorers with 19 points for TMP. Hannah Rose added a career-high 14 points.
BOYS: Plainville, 60, TMP 45
The Plainville Cardinals (13-7, 8-2 MCL) used 25-6 run to erase
a first-half deficit and hand TMP a 60-45 loss Tuesday in Plainville.
The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth four times in the first quarter until the Monarchs Ty Schmeidler knocked down a three-pointer putting TMP up 13-9.
Carson Liles second three pointer of the first quarter gave TMP (9-12, 7-3 MCL) a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
TMP’s Griffin Schumacher put TMP up 19-16 just a little more than four and a half minutes left in the first half on a layup at 19-16.
But Plainville answered with a 25-6 run that covered more than 10 minutes of the second and third quarters as the Cardinals built a 41-37 third quarter leading.
After trailing 43-27 at the end of the third quarter TMP closed the gap to 11 twice in the fourth quarter but got no closer in a 60-45 loss.
Carson Liles scored a career-high 10 points for TMP.
JD Dinton led all scorers for Plainville with 26 points.
