RUSSELL - The TMP-Marian Monarch basketball teams picked up a doubleheader sweep of Russell Tuesday.

Girls: TMP 60, Russell 36

The TMP-Marian used a 10-2 second quarter run to build a double-digit lead and they never looked back on their way to a 60-36 win Tuesday in Russell.

Emilee Lane scored the first six points of the game for TMP (13-3, 7-1) as the Monarchs and the Broncos traded field goals to open the game with TMP taking a 6-5 lead.

With TMP leading by one at 10-9 the Monarchs scored six straight and led 16-9 before Russell ( 7-8, 3-4 MCL) tallied a pair of free throws cutting TMP鈥檚 lead to 16-11.

A Sophia Balthazor three-pointer to open the second quarter briefly gave TMP a 19-11 lead. Russell was able to quickly cut the lead back to two at 19-17 with a 6-0 run.

TMP answered with an 8-0 run to lead by 10 at 27-7. The Monarchs led by 10 three different times in the second quarter and led 34-26 at halftime when Lane hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Monarchs opened the second half on a 12-2 run building a 46-28 lead. Russell scored the final seven points of the third quarter cutting TMP鈥檚 lead to 11 at 46-35.

TMP outscored Russell 14-1 in the fourth quarter on their way to the 60-36 win.

Game highlights

Emilee Lane scored a team-high 15 points for TMP to go along with her 10 rebounds. Jaci VonLintel added 13 points, Kyleigh Allen finished with 12 points and Megan Hamel chipped in 11.

Boys: TMP 68, Russell 52

The TMP boys used an 11-2 first quarter run to build an early double-digit lead on their way to a 68-52 win over Russell.

The two teams opened the game with a pair of ties, the last at 5-5 when TMP put together a 12-2 run to take a 17-7 lead. The Monarchs led by as Monarchs as 12 two different times in the first quarter with TMP taking a 25-17 lead into the second quarter.

The Monarchs outscored Russell 17-4 to open the second quarter to double up the Broncos 42-21. Russell scored the final five points of the first half with TMP leading 42-26 at the break.

TMP scored the first seven points of the third quarter to lead by 23 at 49-26.

The Monarchs maintained the double-digit through the rest of the third quarter at led 57-37 through three quarters and went on to the 68-52 win.

Game highlights

Dylan Werth and Jackson Schulte led TMP with 17 points and Gavin Unrein chipped in 10.

TMP travels to Phillipsburg on Friday.
