GARDEN CITY – The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (KCAIC) has awarded High Plains Public Radio a grant.

The KCAIC’s grant of $7,124 will allow High Plains Public Radio (HPPR) to purchase mobile video broadcast equipment.  This will allow HPPR to broadcast remote events, such as HPPR’s Living Room Concerts and festivals.

“We sincerely thank the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission for this grant,” said Abby Killingsworth, development director.

“The past couple of years have been very challenging operationally and financially.  Throughout the pandemic HPPR has maintained full operations in order to continue to provide factual COVID news and information from local, national and global perspectives, including through the most recent Omicron wave.  However, HPPR’s fundraising from individuals and businesses has fallen short of budget.  This grant will expand audience awareness of HPPR and increase the value of the station to its listener members and community partners.”

The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission is a program administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce.  “The commission is dedicated to measuring, promoting, supporting and expanding the creative arts to grow the state’s economy and enhance the quality of life.”  For more information go to kansascommerce.gov/program/kcaic/.

HPPR has been providing public-radio service for over 40 years, starting in 1980 with the launch of its first station in southwest Kansas.  The station broadcasts a mix of news, public affairs, music, and cultural programming 24 hours a day (see schedule at www.hppr.org).
