Hays entered the game ranked for the first time on the season entering the 5A polls at #9, after a runner-up finish at the Hays City Shootout.

Hays used a 12-0 first quarter run and 14-5 run in the second on their way to a 56-47 win.

The game was tied at three before the Indians hit four first quarter three pointers that stretched the lead out to 15-3. Manhattan scored right before the end of the first quarter start an 8-0 run that lasted into the second quarter.

Hays went scoreless for the first four and a half minutes to start the second quarter. Katie Linenberger ignited a 14-5 run with a three point play. Hays led 29-16 at halftime.

Highlights

Manhattan scored 21 points in the third quarter but thanks to four Carly Lang points in the final seven seconds of the quarter, Hays countered with 18. Hays pushed their advantage in the fourth quarter to 15 points before holding on for a 56-47 victory.

Hays made 9 of 18 three point attempts in the contest.

Coach Len Melvin

Molly Martin scored a career high 22 which included six three pointers and four of four free throw shooting. Carly Lang added a season high 16 and Jillyan Sheldon scored 10 for a second straight game. Manhattan was led by Destiny Yates' 16 points and Avery Larson with 15.

Hays improves to 3-1. Manhattan falls to 1-3.

Boys
Hays 44 - Manhattan 60

Manhattan used an 18-4 run in the first half to seize control of the game against Hays and stayed ahead by double figures rest of the night on their way to a 60-44 victory.

Hays had leads of 11-10 and 14-13 in the first quarter but would not take back the lead rest of the night. The Hays Indians were held to eight points in the final 9:15 of the first half.

Highlights

Manhattan led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter. Hays trimmed the advantage down to 12 in the fourth quarter with less than three minutes to go before the final of 60-44.

Chason VanDerWege scored a career high 12 to lead the Indians. Manhattan was led by Jack Wilson who scored 20, 18 in the first half.

Hays falls to 2-2. Manhattan is 3-1. Hays will host Junction City on Friday.
