🎾 FHSU picks up non-conference win at Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Fort Hays State Tennis picked up a 6-1 non-conference win on Friday afternoon (April 7) against Truman State. The win helped the Tigers improve their record to 7-11 overall, while the Bulldogs dropped to 10-7. The tone of the match was set early on by Fort Hays State in double play, winning all three of the contested doubles matches.

The Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 18-8 throughout doubles play. Irina Alfonso and Maria Paz Diaz had the largest margin of victory at the No. 1 position with a score of 6-2. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams both won their matches 6-3.

The Tigers carried over their early success into singles play, winning five of the six contested singles matches on the day. Paz Diaz (No. 3) and Fiorella Mendez (No. 4) limited their opponents to just one single game win on their way to victory in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.

Alfonso picked up another win at the No. 1 singles position, 6-2 and 6-0. Stefany Stemmer (No. 2) won her match in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Grace Unruh (No. 5) brought home another point for the team, winning 6-1, 6-3.

The Tigers will finish the week with a non-conference match against Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon (April 8) in Bolivar, Mo. The match is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
